How the random team generator works

Paste your list, one name per line, into the box above. Choose whether you want to split by a set number of teams (e.g. "make 4 teams") or by a target team size (e.g. "groups of 5"). Add custom team names if you want something more fun than "Team 1, Team 2" — try color names, table numbers, or house names.

When you press "Generate teams," everyone is shuffled into a completely random order first, then dealt out one at a time across the teams, round-robin style. That keeps every team as close to the same size as possible — if the list doesn't divide evenly, the leftover people are spread across different teams instead of piling onto one. Everyone is shuffled first, then dealt out one at a time across the teams in order, so team sizes never differ by more than one person.
Can I split by team size instead of team count?
Yes — switch "Split by" to "People per team" and enter your target size. The tool works out how many teams that creates.
What if I ask for more teams than people?
You'll get an error — you can't have more teams than there are people to split up.
Can I name the teams myself?
Yes — enter a comma-separated list in "Custom team names." Leave it blank and teams are labeled Team 1, Team 2, and so on.
Is my list saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server or stored.
